荧・熠烁

荧, YING, is a biennial concert held by Nanyang Audiovisual Club, featuring a wide variety of performances such as dancing, singing, and playing of musical instruments by our beloved students. Every 2 years, 荧 is held on the grass patch of our school, where students are allowed to bask in the rays of the setting sun while enjoying the performances.

荧・熠烁 finally came back after a 3-year hiatus due to COVID-19, and this year’s concert was the fruition of months of hard work put into it by our crew, performances, technicians and teachers.

Preparation for 荧・熠烁 began in September of 2022, spearheaded by the then Sec 4 CCA seniors who came back to AV to help out. Every batch was involved in this huge project. CCA members were split into 4 different committees to start planning: Publicity was in charge of promoting YING, through Instagram posts, stories and publicity videos; Logistics and Treasury had to plan general and equipment logistics, as well as the cost breakdown; Programmes was in charge of planning and scheduling the auditions for the concert; Design was in charge of designing the YING banners, shirts, posters, tickets and merchandise. NYAV also held CCA camps during the November and December holidays, where the crew was taught how to set up the various lighting, sound and stage equipment. Dry runs were also held for performers to rehearse.

As a new Sec 1 with zero-to-no knowledge about Ying, it was quite difficult to get used to the fast pace of the rehearsals but with time, I was able to adapt and help out a lot. My assigned duty was helping out backstage, moving the stage and planning some performers’ staging. The seniors were also a great help, teaching the juniors the ropes very easily.

The hours-long of discussing, planning and negotiating paid off as we saw the whole school come together on the 13th Jan enjoying the performances. Even though  荧・熠烁 was held in the 爱礼堂 instead of the grass patch due to wet weather conditions, the concert was nonetheless a blast.
